Thoughts on the show...

As posted by Steve Townsley on misc.fitness.weights:

Men's bantamweight: Dunno. I missed that part of the night show. Sorry.

Lightweights:
1st Jack "the GiantKiller" Smith - for a lightweight, this guy looked awesome. Hard, big, full and ripped. Sorry, but I didn't catch the other names.

Middleweights:
1st Andy Denetta - in his first national show no less!
2nd Johnny Hoya
3rd Joe Lazzaro
4th Tommy Horn - the crowd really booed this decision! He was really hard, but had bad posing technique.
5th Jeff Snyder - The first round of booing, less than for the 4th place, tho.

Light Heavyweights:
1st Willie Stallings
2nd Arne List
3rd Chuck Sanow - I had him second frm the night show. Go figure. *shrug*
4th Mark Natalli - I had this guy first based on how he looked at the night show.
5th Sylvester Solomon

Heavyweights:
5th Darrell Tirrell
4th Dave Palumbo - Hugely distended gut on this guy. It was a toss-up as to which was bigger, his ass (glutes) or his gut. Was supposedly the heaviest competitor, prolly weighing 275 at the nigt show according to emcee Lonnie Teper.
3rd Orville Burk
2nd Tom Prince - Tom looks lgood, but really needs to work on his posing. His routine is really short and he lacks presence in his presentation. And some of his poses are just plain BAD! He also needs to get someone to work with him on his tanning. His face was white and his body so dark you couldn't see any detail. Tom actually looked better at the USA's, IMO.
1st Jay Cutler - Very big boy! Much better than Prince, based on how they looked at night. Given a few years of refinement, this guy will be a serious Olympia threat.

Overall: Light Heavyweight Willie Stallings. He deserved it. Much better overall than Cutler, despite Cutler's size advantage.

The women:

I think the NPC Nationals judges are F****D!
Okay, had to get that off my chest, since the person I went to the Nationals to watch got completely screwed in favor of women with fat on their asses. The results (which you've prolly heardby now but I haven't been able to check mail so I don't know):

Women's Lightweight
5th Diana Monti
4th Yaz Boyum - her routine at the night show could well have been in a fitness competition! She did a standard posing routine in prejudging and looked good. The night routine was very good, but could've used more actual posing shots.
3rd Jodi List (formerly Friedman)
2nd Angie Ashcraft
1st Renee Johns - She looked outstanding and I thought she was it at prejudging. At least I got one right. :)

Women's Middleweight
(they really need a light heavy category for women)
5th Loren Hart - I thought she had a fat ass. What were the judges thinking???
4th Michelle Ivers
3rd Rachael Mathias
2nd Marcy??? (I missed her name)
1st Gayle Moher (not sure of the spelling)

Women's heavyweights
(I heard the everage weight in this class was 175 pounds!)

5th Jennifer Greenbaum
4th Lisa Lewis - I seem to recall her looking a tad smooth, but huge.
3rd Ann-Marie Crooks!! A disappointing placing for a tremendous looking lady. I thought she'd take the whole thing. If I had to point to something that could maybe be brought up, it is her delts. Ann-Marie did NOT look like a happy camper after the night show.

2nd Nicole Bass - Very big, very hard, and I doubt she'll ever get first place. A lot of consensus about that because of how she looks (facially). That doesn't make it right, but that's whjat I heard a lot of folks saying. Not to Nicole's face, mind you, I understand she was one pissed off lady as well.
1st Betty Pariso - HAd a wonderful looking physique that maybe I should paid more attention to. She hgad a very classy, graceful posing routine at the night show.

Women's Overall: I forget. Didn't write it down. I think it was Betty. Dunno. I was extremely saddened at how my friend was treated that I didn't have much heart in paying attention after they had all the top 15 middleweights come out and get introduced. What a bummer to have gone thru all that dieting and shit for well over 12 weeks to only get to do one pose at the night show.


Oh, wait, it was the middleweight. Gayle M. Yep, that was it.

Dan Duchaine's Viewpoint:
A few comments about some of the heavyweight placings;

Heavyweights:
1) Betty Pariso won by default. She was only competitor spot-on in shape and she might not have any great bodyparts, but she has no weakness as compared to all her other bodyparts.

2) Nicole Bass: She was perhaps 5-7 pounds too heavy, but was in better shape than I imagined at close to 200 pounds. Nicole has pecs, delts, and a lot of upper back detail on a back double bi. She has no arms and no legs. Even in shape (which she wasn't), she would not have won, as Betty has less flaws.

Ann-Marie: She was absolutely beautiful to look at. Gorgeous legs and the best posing of the night. But objectively: She was not hard enough. As compared to lower body, Ann-Marie's upper body is lacking. Nicole beat Ann Marie because she had a better side chest and all the back shots were more detailed. Frankly, at this point of time, I don't think Ann-Marie should pursue her weaknesses, as the amount of damage accrued to bring them up wouldn't pay off in the pro ranks. If Ann-Marie had bigger delts and more back detail, she would have placed 2nd.

That Lewis Girl: Who was smooth, but when she gets in shape she will be a monster-sized Lenda Murray. She is the best female bodybuilder on the damn planet.

BTW: ALL of the class winners have now ended their bodybuilders.
NONE of them could place in the pro ranks.
