2016 Toronto Supershow

June 3-5, 2016

Toronto, ON, Canada - It had been two years since we last covered the Toronto SuperShow and the show has grown and brought in new events and seen growth in the attendance as well.  As in previous years, it was held in conjunction with the OPA Provincial Championships at the Toronto Metro Convention Center. 

In the Provincial Championships we were impressed with several physique athletes who hopefully will continue on to Nationals and eventually turn pro.  Some of our initial favorites included Lauren Martin-Stow and Heaven McIntyre as well as Janet De Rosa.  Michele McKenzie kept getting overlooked in every class she was in even though she looked terrific and Amanda Smith looked to almost have a pro level physique already which might have been a bit too much at the provincial level.  We were not able to attend the finals since the pro prejudging occured at the same time, but have results posted below.

Fitness and womens bodybuilding both continue to decline as fewer and fewer compete in those divisions while physique has grown.  In figure there were a number of outstanding athletes as well including Lauren

On the pro side, womens bodybuilding there had only seven competitors.  It was a Canadian sweep of the top three medal placings as the incredibly shredded Laura Carolan took the title and Rising Phoenix qualification.  Nancy Clark who also showcased shredded glutes (but not quite to the level of Carolan's) took second while equally impressive Cathy Lefrancois made a strong showing to round out the award winners.  Robin Hillis looked massive on stage as the tallest competitor and carried some impressive muscle but was out-conditioned at this show.

In Pro Physique the level of muscularity and conditioning of the competitors continues to impress and Michaela Aycock looked solid throughout prejudging and finals to take the victory and Olympia qualification.  In second was Lise Thexton who's streamlined physique was tight throughout and helped her edge out her fellow Canadian Jodi Boam.  The former fitness star showcased her fitness skills in a sparkling routine which was the best in the physique category.  With great stage presence as well, look for Boam to get to the Olympia stage as well.

Tamara Qureshi was making her pro debut and placed fourth in a very hotly contested field.  She was followed by Eleonora Dobrinina who was in amazing shape and had a high energy routine.  The depth and quality of the physique class was impressive as you could see quality all the way up and down the competition which bodes well for the continued growth and participation in physique.  Others that we thought impressed included ninth place finisher Leah Johnson who has fantastic shape and was well conditioned.  She looked sharper at finals and Mica Schneider showed nice muscle density and quality.
