How did you get started into
lifting weights and training?
I have always enjoyed weight lifting. I started when I was 14
years old, my Dad got me a membership to the YMCA and I would go
everyday. I started running distance and I became quite good so my
coaches told me to stop weight lifting because it would be detrimental
to my running. I listened but I didn't like it. After I ran three
marathons I decided to focus more on weight lifting.
Were you athletic growing
up? What other sports have you done or are
currently doing?
Yes I have always enjoyed playing sports. I have always been a very
competitive athlete and I have always loved competing against other
people.
What
other sports have you done or are you currently doing?
I have competed in long distance running; I ran for an NCAA Division I
university. My main event was the 10,000m on the track and I
also competed in cross country. I have ran 3 marathons. I did
one fitness figure show, two body building shows, one push/pull
competition (bench and deadlift only). Right now I am training and
competing in strongwomen competitions.
What are your goals in physique
sports/strongwoman?
My goal is to win NAS lightweight women nationals and be
one of the strongest if not the strongest lightweight women in the
country.
In
your opinion, what is your best body part?
I would have to say my back and legs because they have always been the
strongest parts on my and those muscles seem to grow the easiest on me.
Do
you enjoy being strong? Why?
Yes because I can do things that other people can't :) and
it makes me unique.
Do you enjoy performing/competing?
Yes it is one of my favourite things to do. I train and compete with my
boyfriend, Paul Rykiert, and I look forward to competing and training
with him all the time. There is nothing i would rather
do.
Why do you love lifting weights?
I love the feeling that it gives me. I feel like
I am accomplishing something every time I do a workout. I
love making progress and I love just pushing myself to my maximum
limits.
Tell us what a typical day is
like your you.
I usually get up and start prepping my food for the day. I
always put myself on specific diets so that i can stay as lean as
possible yet increase in muscular strength. Then my boyfriend and I go
train and then we go to work for the day. I usually allot
about two hours a day for weight training. On days that I
don't lift weights I work on my mobility, technique, flexibility and I
do some cardio. After work I usually come home and cook some food for
the next day, and just hang out with Paul.
Do
you like to show off your muscles when out in public or do you cover up?
I don't like to show off but I am not shy to wear tank tops or
sleeveless shirts. I usually don't like to flex in public, I
do get kindof embarrassed when people as me to flex or make comments
about my muscles.
What misconception about
bodybuilding/fitness/being muscular would you like to dispel?
That it is not lady-like for women to have
muscles. I don't think that being a women should have
anything to do with the size of your muscles or how strong you are.
What kind of stuff would we find
in the backseat of your car?
water bottles, foam rollers, gym bag
Favorite movie actor/actress?
Adam
Sandler, I think he is funny and I like most of his movies
Person you would like to
meet? (Living or dead)
Benedikt Magnusson just because he deadlifting
1015lbs I would love to just ask him questions about his
training and what that felt like.
Anything else we should know
about you?
I have a good luck charm that I bring with me to all my
workouts, competitions, and to work...pretty much everywhere I go. Paul
(my bf) bought me a small stuffed penguin because my nickname to him is
penguin and I take her with me all the time. I also have a YouTube
channel 303runner, named after my fastest marathon 3 hours
and 3minutes. My favourite weight lifting exercise is the
deadlift.
