Lisa Bavington 2007
A little bit of information about what Lisa Bavington has been up to since her absence almost five years ago!
"I just wanted to give you a brief update on what I've been up to since I retired from the bodybuilding scene. In September 2002 I returned to York University to complete the BA (Kinesiology) I had started 9 years earlier (I left York in 1996 during my last year of undergraduate study to start competitive bodybuilding) while also working full-time at Centennial College...finishing this final year was certainly a lesson in time management.
I graduated in 2003 and worked for another year at Seneca College in North York, Ontario. I was doing a lot of writing at the time for various magazines and websites, which I believe played a large part in my decision to see what graduate school had to offer. In September 2004, I entered the Master's program in the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta. I did a lot of teaching (4 classes/term) in Ethics, Socio-Cultural Sport Studies, and Applied Resistance Training. I also spent a lot of time doing Strength & Conditioning programs for the Men's Varsity Volleyball Team and various other athletes at the University. I graduated in June 2007 and was to begin a PhD this month, but have deferred my admission to September 2008 and accepted a position at Grant MacEwan College for the upcoming academic year.
So, my plan is to put the academic writing on hold for awhile and focus on a book I have in the works that will detail my experiences in female bodybuilding, but in a different way than my previous writing has. I'm hoping to have a proposal out to publishers within the next couple of months. I'm still busy with my personal training business although I only do consultations, workout programs, and diet plans online now due to other commitments.
