Candace Camlin photo by gene x. hwang, 2002 Editor's Note: Because there are so many amazing athletes that all deserve to be profiled for their hard work, genex9 has decided to introduce QuickTake profiles that a bit shorter, and in the words of the athletes themselves. This will allow us to profile more new faces, and help to give them all the attention and exposure they deserve.

"I was born and raised in Kirkland, Washington and I have always been into sports. I always favored softball and growing up I traveled all over the nation playing in tournaments and competing with teams from all over as well.

"I graduated from Juanita High School in Kirkland and went on to play college ball on a full ride scholarship. I have always welcomed any competition no matter what it is and have always enjoyed staying in shape and lifting weights. It wasn't really until I met my husband, Michael Camlin, that I truly got to know how to do it properly and put on some size and gain strength as well. He is a World Champion Powerlifer with multiple records in the deadlift, squat, and bench press. We started training really hard together and I realized the potential that I had.

"It was then that I decided to start pursuing bodybuilding. My husband competed for four years as well so he knows the sport and is also my trainer. We truly have a blast together when we train and beleive that we are fortunate to share the same passion for lifting and competing. He took a year off competing to train me for the Vancouver Naturals Classic back on April 6, 2002. I missed my weight class by two pounds and ended up in the heavyweight class taking third place.

"I was discouraged, but determined not to leave it at that. I said 'Let's go for the Emerald Cup! Why not? Nothing to lose, I could stay on my diet two more weeks and maybe even come in a little leaner,' which from the photos you can tell that's the truth.

"I am a mother of two: a 5-year-old boy and 1½-year-old girl. I am also a stay-at-home mom and we train at the Arlington (Washington) Gold's Gym. I am now going to take the year to train hard, gain size, focus on my legs quite a bit and go for the overall next year at the Emerald Cup! I want to win that overall before pursuing Nationals. I definitely love the sport and want to see how far it will take me and am looking forward to that pro card!"
